Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Insurance Explained

Accident Sickness and Unemployment Insurance, sometimes shortened to ASU, is an insurance policy designed to cover you in any of the named areas, i.e accident sickness or unemployment. If you should qualify for a claim under such a policy, you will be paid out a monthly benefit, usually after a deferred period set out in the terms of the policy. The monthly benefit will then last up to a period of 12 months depending on the level of cover provided.

When taking Accident Sickness and Unemployment, you can select the amount of monthly benefit you need. This is usually based on a percentage of your income and not exceeding the amount of your mortgage, loan and other utility expenses. It is not based on age Other than if you are over retirement age), health or lifestyle.

Accident Sickness and Unemployment Insurance is often given other names such as ASU, Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance, Mortgage Protection Insurance or MPPI, Loan Payment Protection Insurance or Loan Protection Insurance, Rent Payment Protection Insurance or Rent Protection Insurance and just Payment Protection Insurance.
