UK Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance
Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance, sometimes known as MPPI or ASU (Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Insurance), covers your mortgage repayments in the event of you being unable to work due to an accident, sickness or redundancy.
Protecting your monthly mortgage payment against unemployment, sickness, accident and disability can help, if you were suddenly diagnosed with an illness, injured or made redundant and were unable to work for a period of time. Without MPPI would you be able to meet your mortgage repayments from your savings?
State benefits have reduced over the years. Most mortgage payers who have a full time working partner or savings over a certain level, will not receive any help from the state. Those who do qualify for state benefits will not get help for the capital repayment part of their mortgage but will receive help with the mortgage interest payments up to £100,000, although this is not given for the first nine months for those people who took out their mortgage after October 1995.
If you are a UK resident, you can take out Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance to cover you in the event that you unexpectedly lose your income.
